MASTER’S DEGREE IN CULTURAL HERITAGE AND INNOVATION – MPCI

The Master’s Degree in Cultural Heritage and Innovation (MPCI) represents an innovative addition to Mali’s higher education landscape. It is designed for candidates from diverse academic backgrounds and professional experiences who are interested in culture, heritage, innovation, and territorial development.

The Master’s Degree in Cultural Heritage and Innovation places particular emphasis on the application of social sciences to the enhancement and promotion of cultural heritage, drawing on the values of Maaya. Cultural mediation is approached as one tool among others, alongside cultural innovation, project engineering, and the responsible use of digital tools, including artificial intelligence, in support of cultural transmission and territorial development.

One of the distinctive features of this Master’s programme is its location outside Bamako, in Ségou, a historic and cultural capital with a vibrant artistic ecosystem. The experience accumulated through the various editions of the Festival sur le Niger, together with the availability of professional logistical resources and suitable infrastructure, constitutes a major asset for the implementation of the programme.

General Objective

The overall objective of this Master’s programme is to train professionals capable of promoting, managing, and transmitting cultural heritage through innovative approaches, while contributing to territorial development, social cohesion, and intercultural dialogue.

Academic Backgrounds

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree (three years of higher education / BAC+3) in one of the following fields:

• Arts and Culture;
• Cultural Heritage;
• History;
• Geography;
• Anthropology;
• Sociology;
• Literature;
• Languages;
• Communication;
• Cultural Tourism;
• Management;
• Business Management;
• Development Economics;
• Social and Human Sciences;
• or any other degree from higher education institutions specializing in the arts, cultural professions, or related fields.

The Master’s programme is open to national and international students and professionals, particularly those from the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) area.

This target audience reflects the programme’s interdisciplinary nature. It aims to develop hybrid professional profiles capable of combining heritage, cultural innovation, mediation, digital tools, and Maaya values in a variety of professional contexts.

Faculty and Teaching Staff

The Institut Kôrè des Arts et Métiers (IKAM) draws on a diverse team of professors, lecturers, and practitioners, including academics and research professors, national and international experts, experienced cultural professionals, practicing artists, as well as custodians of indigenous knowledge and holders of traditional legitimacy, all deeply rooted in heritage values.

This diversity of expertise and profiles is a key component of the programme’s educational approach.
